Our client , a large global financial institution , is seeking a base metals trader , to join their existing team in London
Job Description Summary
Responsible for the trading and risk management of the Base Metals forwards portfolio. Scope of activities and authority defined by trading limits. Strong knowledge of risk management, hedging and trading strategies as well as market characteristics.
Role Description
- A key hire to grow the banks Base Metals business and complement the existing team
- The candidate will be responsible for managing the forwards portfolio across the entire Base Metals complex, including both LME and Comex
- A key part of the role will be to actively grow our presence in the Base Metals markets, mainly focused on growing our footprint with both investor and corporate clients, as well as in the broker/inter-dealer market.
- Work closely with the other Metals traders to help the desk form market views and optimise risk taking and market making
- Interact with Sales, both in Commodities and across the bank, to build the franchise, generate trade ideas and produce daily commentary

Part of the growing Global Team that consists of multicultural and multinational backgrounds of all levels from Analyst to Managing Director.
The desk’s unique position enables a very wide reach across the franchise and gives the candidate great opportunities to grow and develop their risk taking career.
The desk is also part of a recent growth initiative push thus giving a candidate a chance to join am expanding business within the firm.
Skills and Requirements
- A minimum of 1-4 years Base Metals or commodity trading experience is required
- Strong macro-economic understanding, knowledge of geopolitics and ability to analyse fundamentals of a market
- Strong fundamental knowledge in the Metals space is an advantage
- Client friendly with good presentation skills and enthusiasm to build the franchise by interacting with clients via meetings and phone calls
- Teamwork-oriented, able to work under pressure
