The role of Product Management within my clients satellites communications division has been designed to ensure that specific product domain areas are adequately ‘championed’ within the business. Currently, product domain areas include Naval, Air, Land and Modem products. Specific responsibilities of product management are;
• Audit / review project based engineering teams in their domain area to ensure OTOCOQ delivery, and to ensure future capabilities of product
• Competitive Assessment (Functional)
• Identify market requirement in line with company strategy
• Define and create product line
• Work with project manager to realise product
• Liaise with engineering/production to identify new technologies
• Produce marketing collateral to support sales
• Arrange product demonstrations
• Drive sales through Sales Team
• Cost effective Engineering
My client are now seeking to appoint a Product Development Manager to lead the Product managers within the business.
Product Development Manager
Reporting to the Engineering Director, will be responsible for all aspects of Product Management within satellite communications business unit. These activities span the full engineering life
cycle, from research and development through to engineering, design authority and technical delivery.
Co-ordinate and set objectives for product managers.
Develop the business the technology roadmap pulling together product strategies with a ‘joined-up’ plan.
Ensure the technology plan is integrated with business, marketing and sales strategies
The position requires a highly flexible and self motivated individual to cover a wide variety of tasks, including managing the product teams to deliver objectives across a number of key programmes. The role will also involve interfacing with wider services and business units, supporting bid and proposal work, developing strategic and business plans to ensure the business meets its substantial growth targets.
The successful candidate will have experience of managing engineering teams with a proven record of innovation and delivery.
Experience of communication network engineering is essential with experience of satellite communication systems and software engineering highly desirable.
Qualifications: Good Degree (Bsc/BEng), or equivalent, in Software, Electronics or Communications Engineering.
Skills and Experience:
Education and experience:
Engineering degree with at least 10 years post graduate engineering experience in a communication network field.
A minimum of five years experience in a senior engineering role.
¤ Demonstrates record of driving product change and innovation.
Other essential requirements:
¤ Excellent oral/written communication skills
¤ MS Office skills
¤ Team player, well organised, flexible, communicative and determined, with the ability to work highly independently with the
minimum of supervision.
Desirable requirements:
¤ Experience of Satellite Communication and Software engineering.
