MANUFACTURING ENGINEER
Job Specification:
Reports To Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Purpose: To be the owner of continuous improvement activity within a designated product stream or the owner of Project engineering (Manufacturing) activity in NPI or Discontinuous projects.
Be the owner of continuous improvement activity within the assigned product stream
” Be the owner of production and quality activity as required by the assigned value stream
” Update processes in line with Engineering Change Notes and Production Permits
” Be the owner of Production/ Quality engineering activity required by Engineering change notes
” Establish Standard Times and provide labour costs for each operation within the process
” Be the nominated expert for a chosen process, e.g Castings
” Support NPI activity as directed by Senior Manufacturing Engineer
B. Quality
” Champion resolution of OOB/CRM issues related to assigned product stream
” To be key contact for supplier issues and NCR ownership, own issues to D5 on 8D process (Choose and verify corrective actions).
” Work alongside the Supplier Quality engineer to implement permanent corrective actions with regard to mechanical and electrical component issues
” Establish SPC charts for critical characteristics. Determine process capability for processes and modify tooling or processes as necessary.
” Report progress of Continuous quality improvements to stakeholders (Liaison meeting etc).
C. Plant & Equipment
” Source suppliers for both standard and special purpose plant and equipment.
” Lead specific projects when a need has been identified for new or replacement hardware
” Establish maintenance programmes for all process equipment.
” Maintain all process documentation (PFMEA/STOPS/Control plans etc), and use RPN to drive process improvement.
D. Tooling
” Design and develop tools, gauges and fixtures to produce quality products in the most economical way
” Identify and implement tooling improvements
” Liaise with toolmakers to ensure full understanding of requirements.
E. Weld specific
” Experience in designing and fabricating jigs and fixtures particularly with respect to welding jigs
” Experience in using a range of Welding processes
” Experience of assessing weld quality
” Understanding of Metallurgy and its effect on Weld processes
” Certified to CSWIP or equivalent to validate welding quality to EN 287

Knowledge and skills required:-
” Knowledge of ISO9001, preferably a qualified Auditor.
” Working knowledge & experience of APQP/PPAP
” Problem solving tools and techniques, e.g. 8D methodology, 5Y’s etc. Proven presentation skills
” Cad/Pro E design experience
” Extensive knowledge of jigs and fixture design
” Fabrication, powder painting, machining or electro-mechanical assembly
” PLC/Automation
” Lean Manufacturing techniques
Experience Required:-
” Proven abillity in a modern manufacturing environment is essential
” Identification and implementation of mistake proofing methods
” Compilation of process documentation such as Control plans/ FMEA.
” Experience in performing capability studies and statistical process control
” Proven ability in a production or quality engineering related role
” Demonstrated experience of working in a continuous improvement environment
” Lean manufacturing techniques
” Project based engineering
” Able to work within a project environment
