An excellent opportunity for a Manager, Operational Support to join the hot-rolled products department of a customer-focused, innovative solutions-driven company which makes hot-rolled, cold-rolled and metallic-coated strip steels and provides solutions in product design, processing technologies and management of the supply chain.

As Manager, Operational Support you will produce the Works Area Annual Operating Plan and Safety Annual Plan and develop and implement operational support systems (including Quality Management Systems) to support business requirements.

In particular, you will develop and implement the Safety Management System which will identify specific responsibilities relating to COMAH and current and future legislation. You will also develop the Safety Annual Plan for the Works Area and manage the Safety Facilitator. You will implement the identified responsibilities within the Environmental Management System ensuring that the performance targets set are met and you will develop and co-ordinate the Quality Management System for the Works Area.

In addition you will develop through-process management systems and develop the system for managing employees’ capability development, including the PDP process. You will also appraise and develop direct reports towards meeting business requirements. You will work with the Works Area Management team to develop the approach within the Works Area for Continuous Improvement incorporating the latest tools and techniques (e.g. BMP, TPM) and you will lead and champion change within the Works Area.

Moreover, you will deliver cost effective infrastructure and services to the manufacturing areas and develop the support systems for them, for example, shift reporting systems, data management systems. You will also develop and own the Works Area’s plan for IT improvements and develop the Annual Plan for the Works Area including the process for reviewing the AP. You will then communicate and translate the Annual Plan into day-to-day operational targets and activities and review the implementation of the plan. You will also develop the SLA process with key suppliers and customers and co-ordinate the
R&D programme.

In addition you will ensure financial control is maintained within your area of responsibility in order to minimise costs and manage the financial budget.

Ideally qualified to HNC level in a manufacturing or mechanical engineering related discipline, you will possess proven operations or works experience ideally gained within a process industry or heavy engineering environment.
