An opportunity has arisen for a Fuel Systems Component Manufacturing Engineer to join a leading developer of environmental technologies that enable vehicles to operate on clean-burning alternative fuels.
This innovative company develops high-performance, fuel-efficient internal combustion engines and fuel systems for gaseous fuels such as natural gas and hydrogen and works closely with global automotive leaders to incorporate these technologies into their engines and to explore future commercial opportunities for clean vehicles.
As a Fuel Systems Component Manufacturing Engineer you will be responsible for the manufacture of high-pressure direct injection natural gas fuel system components.
In particular, you will be actively involved with the design team, participating in design reviews, providing recommendations for revisions to product and material specifications and testing, and contributing your expertise in precision manufacturing.
In addition, you will work closely with manufacturing suppliers to develop manufacturing, assembly and quality instructions and specifications and to establish the systems and metrics required to quantify supplier selection methods and quality improvement activities.
Finally, you will coach and lead suppliers in the development of quality systems and practices to support excellent supplier performance, through the utilization of APQP tools and PPAP process.
Qualified to degree level in Mechanical Engineering, you will have proven experience with precision component / product manufacturing. You will also have a strong background in the manufacturing of mechanical automotive components, ideally fuel systems. Demonstrated product/process quality knowledge to QS9000 or ISO/TS-16949 guidelines, including APQP and PPAP is also required.
You must have a strong ability to lead/coach both internal customers (design teams) and external suppliers in problem solving/root cause analysis and closure by effectively communicating within various levels of the organization. You will be actively involved with the design team, contributing your expertise in precision manufacturing and assembly by participating in design reviews, providing recommendations for revisions to product and material specifications and performance and quality testing requirements.
Occasional travel will be required to interface and maintain key relationships with production and other suppliers.
