Senior PHP Developer iGaming London

My client is an award winning independent games developer based in Soho, London. They're passionate about creating original games that bring millions of people together. Working across a range of different digital platforms their social and mobile games are powered by complex back-end systems, built in PHP and designed to support millions of players as they access their content and communicate with each other.

They are growing rapidly - focused on the cutting edge of digital games, constantly exploring new technologies and solutions to improve the content they make. They are the only games developer outside of the US that is a Facebook 'Preferred Developer Consultant' and we were recently picked out by the Sunday Times 'Tech Track 100' as one of ten tech companies to watch.

Key Responsibilities

You'll be working with our Technical Lead to help plan, design and implement new projects, oversee other developers and build key systems.

o Designing database schemas
o Planning technical implementation of projects
o Designing new game APIs
o Optimizing applications for extremely high volumes of traffic (Sharding, Caching, etc)
o Actively suggest, design and develop new systems, frameworks and solutions to accelerate our development process
o Overseeing and assisting other developers (both internal and external)
o Constantly explore new technologies, build prototypes and make recommendations on what we should fold into our technology stack

You'll have the opportunity to get stuck into some cutting edge projects with a team of talented, professional games developers, building games played by millions across the world.

Desired Skills & Experience

o Significant experience in developing object-orientated web apps using PHP
o A solid understanding of the techniques for building high performance, scalable, maintainable software
o Familiarity with good development practices including source control, testing, automation.
o Passion. It could be about the potential of online gaming or web development in general. We're looking for someone who genuinely cares about the quality of the work they produce.
o A good understanding of Linux, configuring web servers and applications
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills

These skills are also a plus:

o Front end development skills (HTML5, CSS, Javascript, etc)
o Knowledge of Flash, Android or iPhone development
