We’re looking for people with a deep technical knowledge and an ability to understand the complexities of designing systems for extreme performance, scalability or security. One of the characteristics of a technical architect is experience and ideally you’ll have worked on software systems of varying sizes and architectural styles, using both open source and commercial technologies that could include Java, .NET, RDBMS, Middleware, Web.
As a technical architect, you’ll take responsibility for the technical quality of our clients’ solutions, ensuring that they are fit for purpose and meet the non-functional requirements. Your tasks will include software architecture definition, technology selection, hardware sizing/capacity planning and quality assurance along with design and hands-on development if you have an interest in doing this. Either way, you’ll need to ensure that the project comes to a successful conclusion and we’ll look for you to innovate and share ideas in an effort to continually improve what we do. Whatever the project, you’ll need to take a pragmatic approach to architecture, balancing the delivery demands of today with the future requirements of tomorrow.
Of course, we’re looking for all of the usual consultant characteristics such as good communication, an ability to influence, an ability to motivate and enthusiasm. An awareness of the current trends in technology such as lightweight Java EE, Web 2.0 and SOA is also important.
Away from technology, we’re looking for people with an understanding of various software development methodologies so that you can be involved with shaping projects at a higher level. You’ll need to be the sort of person that can pick things up quickly and if your background is in one area of financial services or you opt to specialise in one area then we will encourage and support this.
We understand that everybody is different, which is why we’ll support you to take your career further, whether you choose to stay technical, focus on advisory engagements such as architectural reviews or grow project management skills.
