Our client is looking for a Network Engineer with a weighted bias towards CISCO. Your responsibilities will include
• To develop and maintain the local, wide area and internet networking infrastructure. Including:
- Analysing and documenting business requirements;
- Design of networking infrastructures to meet business requirements;
- Configuration of networking devices, switches, routers and firewalls;
- Fault diagnosis using network packet analysers;
- Maintaining detailed network documentation;
- Managing the process of own and team’s changes into the Production Environment;
- Ensuring that all deliverables produced by self or team are fit for purpose, as judged by management and recipients;
• To develop and maintain the windows server infrastructure within the client. Including:
- Analysing and documenting business requirements;
- Design of server / domain infrastructures to meet business requirements;
- Supplier / software selection to meet business requirements;
- Configuration of servers (hardware), windows operating systems, Windows back office systems and other third party server based software;
- Fault diagnosis;
- Maintaining detailed server hardware and software documentation;
- Managing the process of own and team’s changes into the Production Environment;
- Ensuring that all deliverables produced by self or team are fit for purpose, as judged by management and recipients;
• To become an acknowledged expert on the networking and windows server infrastructure
• To investigate, document and resolve production problems in an accurate and timely manner, in liaison with the relevant business units and IT colleagues, and in accordance with the priority established by the Windows & Networks Manager.
• To undertake all assigned tasks to agreed date, budget and quality expectations, and to ensure his/her own and team’s compliance with standards and procedures.
• To become an authority on the change control procedure and, working with the Windows & Networks Manager, to devise accurate project plans for self and team members, ensuring that all work is undertaken in a controlled and structured manner in line with them.
• To ensure that all own and team’s work is authorised, and that no change is made to the Production Environment without Windows & Networks Manager and change board approval.
• To work with the Windows & Networks Manager in devising effective plans for the unit as a whole, reporting progress on a regular basis, and escalating any delivery risks or issues at the earliest possible opportunity.
• To exercise all reasonable care in ensuring the security and integrity of the client’s computer systems, data and application software.
• To provide out-of-hours cover as requested in support of the above.
• To assist other members of staff as appropriate, including team leadership, formal mentoring and on-the-job training where necessary.
• To undergo training as appropriate in support of the above.
• To undertake any other tasks as agreed with the Windows & Networks Manager.
• To provide second and third line support for windows servers and network devices, third line support is generally provided by a third party under contract. Third line support is invariably management of the third party from initial report to conclusion.
