IT Manager
Job Purpose:
To develop and maintain a stable, secure and efficient IT infrastructure to meet business needs, with responsibilities covering the GKN datacentre, network links, Wintel and Unix systems and the supporting database architecture. The role will act as the management lead for the Infrastructure team.
Dimensions:
£375m business; 1,500 employees; 600 PCs; 50 Workstations; Servers/Storage (TBC).
Accountabilities:
Management of the Infrastructure team to deliver a stable, secure and efficient IT infrastructure to meet business needs.
Safeguarding the security and integrity of the data centre and associated networks.
Hands on practical knowledge of Wintel and Unix systems and associated database architecture to act as an escalation point for team members.
Work with the wider IT team and business functions to provide day to day IT technical support on infrastructure.
Specification and procurement of hardware, telecommunications and infrastructure equipment and services for GKN Filton conforming to GKN Aerospace standards as appropriate.
Ensure that the activities are controlled within the agreed budgets and timescales.
Contribute to proposals for new technology or ways of working
Actively monitor technical developments in the market place and build own working knowledge of IT environments across GKN and in the wider IT environment.
Participate in wider GKN Aerospace technical discussions and developments.
Special Features:
There will be a requirement to build and develop the IT infrastructure from a green field perspective to facilitate GKN’s timely migration from Airbus IT Transition Service Arrangements post Day 1.
Qualifications & Experience:
Desirable:
Post degree additional education
Project/programme management qualified
Good network of external IT professionals and key IT suppliers.
Formal UNIX and WINTEL qualifications, training and certification.
Operational experience within an IT & Telecoms environment.
Good knowledge of manufacturing environments.
Essential:
BSc in Computer Science or related degree
Good knowledge of IS/IT technologies, policy and strategy.
5yrs+ experience of the management and operation of IT infrastructure (Unix, Wintel, database(SQL/Oracle), network, telecoms, datacentre)
LAN, WAN and Cisco skills
Server, SAN, infrastructure design and build experience.
