TECHNICAL HEAD – CIVIL ENGINEERING

Our client, a leading energy company is looking to recruit a Technical Head (Civil Engineering). In this role you will be responsible for the promotion of a positive safety culture ensuring that safety issues and targets are met, leading by example and developing new approaches to deliver the vision of zero accidents. You will also ensure Safety systems are compliant with statutory and company requirements.
The Technical Head will be responsible for the development and provision of ‘leading edge’ technical consultancy skills to customers and managing own workload to ensure delivery to time, quality and cost targets. You will maintain personal technical / professional knowledge to ensure new technology / methods and capabilities are introduce to the business and be responsible for authorising technical reports from own and other Teams as required in area of technical expertise. You will also provide technical guidance and resolve technical issues for members of the Civil Department and Teams.
Furthermore, you will also be responsible for establishing and setting training and competency standards and for the delivery of training, workshops and communicating updates in area of expertise. You will have an appreciation of new developments in R&D activities in technical area of expertise and support the Civil Engineering Team Leader in the recruitment, technical development, education, coaching and mentoring of staff and associates, and, in particular, technical succession planning in your defined specialism. Furthermore you will ensure that knowledge is transferred, supported by a culture of coaching, feedback and personal development of employees
You will provide technical support to a team working in the following areas: Technical expertise relating to the design, construction and maintenance of power generating structures including chimneys, cooling towers, electrostatic precipitators, support structures for turbines and rotating plant. You will provide support to Civil Engineering team members for project management of major projects and undertake the assessment and design of proposed new build projects. You will have an awareness and understanding of environmental legislation and impact upon existing and future generating plant.
Educated to degree level or equivalent, or with equivalent extensive and relevant experience, you will also be Fellow of a relevant institution or working towards Fellowship status, or UK/Internationally recognised technical expert. You will possess highly developed communication & interpersonal skills to establish and nurture effective working relationships, internally and externally. You will have the ability to work under pressure to meet challenging targets and have the ability to motivate, challenge and inspire teams to deliver high performance. You will also have experience of successfully leading, coaching and mentoring teams and individuals. You will be commercially aware & understand the environment in which they operate. You will openly accept, promote & manage changes as the business continues to evolve. You will lead by example to develop the culture of continuous improvement.
