Working within the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Group, Naval Architects and Marine Engineers are required to supervise and undertake professional design and support tasks in an efficient manner for the repair and development of Nuclear Safety Related Facilities and Submarines throughout their lifecycle.

You will be required to provide design support and prepare, check and authorise design documentation. You will also be involved in managing design teams in the preparation of commercial tenders, preparing design estimates and schedules and preparing technical reviews in support of tender responses.

The Naval Architects and Marine Engineers will be required to act as Project Design Manager responsible to Project Manager for Projects, providing technical recommendations for selecting sub-contractors and/or suppliers, liaising with the Project department to resolve Project issues and liaising with Production to resolve manufacturing problems.

You will also take nuclear responsibilities, supervising, preparing, checking and authorising designs, reports, drawings, specifications and other documents in support of Nuclear Category 1, 2, or 3 plant, facility and equipment, maintaining and updating lifetime records and ensuring that the design processes which affect Nuclear/Radiological Safety are undertaken by Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel and any changes to the organisation are suitably controlled.

To succeed as Naval Architects or Marine Engineers you should be qualified to degree level in an appropriate discipline and have achieved or be eligible to achieve chartered status. You should have a background in Naval Architecture, Ship Science, Offshore Engineering with structural or stability bias or Marine Technology with structural or stability or systems bias, as well as post qualification experience in a design environment.

Knowledge and experience of the following are essential for these role; Stability, Launching and Docking, Structural design and Analysis, Powering and resistance, Seakeeping and Manoeuvrability, Weight Management, Ship Design and Ship Production.
