A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a graduate-level Mechanical Project/Design Engineer with a specialist Research Equipment Developer to the University, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical and Alternative Fuels research sectors.
This small but well-established company designs, builds and maintains bespoke Laboratory Equipment and Rigs and Mini-Pilot Plants. Through their expert calibration and inspection services, they maintain the research infrastructures of their blue-chip customers.
As a Project/Design Engineer, your role will be to produce accurately estimated design solutions to customers’ problems, developing the technical specifications, delivering mechanical engineering technical input to projects (particularly in visualisation of design schemes), managing delivery and ensuring proper operation and function. In particular, you will provide a conceptual and detailed mechanical design service to colleagues and customers, compile cost estimates, check pressure system calculations to internationally recognised codes of practice and undertake detail draughting of rigs / equipment / pressure systems.
Moreover, you will liaise with customers, suppliers and staff, provide a project management service related to the supply of equipment within agreed costs and timescales, and engage and supervise contract CAD designers / detailers during high workload periods.
Qualified to degree level in mechanical engineering or equivalent, you will ideally have some experience of machining and fabrication processes, project management principles and quality assurance/improvement systems, CAD experience, and application of pressure vessel design codes and software. Full training will be provided to the successful candidate on the systems used by the company.
