A Head of Blade Technology Development is now required by our client, a leader in Wind Technology to join them on the Isle of Wight. As Head of Blade Technology Development, you will have to formulate the strategy and drive the implementation for the department. The technology itself is designed to aerospace specifications, but at automotive rates of manufacture. Your focus will be to provide strategic management and leadership to a team of 20 subject matter experts (technical engineers, designers and CFD/FEA specialists).

Reporting to the Vice President of Blade Technology Research and Development, your key responsibilities will be to lead and grow the Blade Technology Development division globally. You will help to establish business objectives that promote enterprise as well as functional success and also be responsible for the leverage of the technical expertise in your team to provide technical leading edge solutions.
You will have accomplished people management skills and business acumen; remote multi-site management and the ability to develop talented people and to leverage their potential. You will be confident in sourcing employees with the capabilities needed to achieve the organization’s long-term objectives and have a thorough understanding of the business requirements and constraints in the value chain. Furthermore, you will manage urgency levels and conflicting requirements to ensure work is prioritized appropriately in department.
The successful candidate will also need the ability to translate strategy into clear accountabilities and operating plans; constructively challenge business plans; reviewing assumptions and major risks and collaborate across boundaries. You will frame problems broadly, acknowledging complex interdependencies and using input from multiple sources. You will need to be comfortable making tough calls when needed to discontinue sub-optimal practices and be able to make decisions quickly, changing course when necessary to keep abreast of changing situations.
Your previous background/experience will include people management and leadership/ Department strategic management. Experience in composite design to manufacture environment, ideally structural or working with advanced composite development is required. You may have previously worked as a Design Manager, Chief Engineer, Head of Engineering or Engineering Manager.
The ability to speak other languages or International experience is beneficial. Experience of working on multi-national projects and experience in Aerospace/ F1/ Motorsport/ Automotive/ Marine would be highly advantageous. You must be willing and able to travel.
