Field Service Engineer - to £30,000 + o/t - work from home base

Our clients gas turbines division manufactures and maintains generator sets in the range 2.5 to 6.3 MWe using the Rolls-Royce 501 series of gas turbines, for applications in Combined Heat and Power / Cogeneration, base load power and stand-by power. The Company has many customers throughout the world in a variety of industries including Oil & Gas, District Heating, Food, Chemicals, Brewing, Manufacturing, Ceramics, Paper and Automobile

Current areas of operation are the UK, most European countries; oil platforms and outside Europe like for example Africa, Middle East, Turkey, Russia, South America & Asia. The service department has depots outside the UK in Holland, Spain, France & Germany. There are a considerable number of base load co-generation units operating in Europe to which the client is committed to giving unparalleled support and to achieve this they maintain service engineers throughout Europe at all times, either as resident engineers or on a rota basis from the UK The primary function of the position is the service specialism, there are however occasional requirements for test work at their headquarters.

The responsibilities of the service department include emergency support, fault finding, general maintenance and repair of company equipment. At times engineers may also be required to supervise sub contract work such as heavy lifting, repair & overhaul. Engineers are expected to carry out multi-disciplined role: they have to deal with mechanical, electrical and electronic problems ranging from tear down and repair of gas turbines to component change on a PCB to PLC programming. A service engineer has considerable 2hands on involvement and in addition to routine maintenance has at times to analyse and solve problems of a highly complex nature full support for these activities is given from the UK base or European depots. Due to the nature of the work and the location of the equipment there is considerable time spent away from home, sometimes at very short notice, typically of up to 4 weeks at any time, after which compensating time off for weekends worked is allowed.
