Applicants will need Experience of the following
At least 5 years of relevant optical design experience, in the space or aerospace industry
Extensive experience of using design modelling tools such as Zemax
The candidate will be qualified to at least degree level in a scientific discipline

Senior Optical Design Engineer

Outline Job Profile:

Senior Optical Design Engineer to conduct design and analysis activities for various programs as part of the optical instrumentation group
Main Activities:

To lead the work of the optical project team, reporting to the Optical Instrumentation Group Leader and being responsible for all the optical engineering activities.

Key Tasks:

Working to develop novel optical systems to meet the requirements of the customer in a cost effective manner Supporting bidding process by supplying optical designs that meet customer requirements
Management of project optical work packages
To provide project planning for optical work packages
Having a clear understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes needed for the optical components and letting this steer the optical design process accordingly
Support manufacturing activities to ensure that optics are produced on time and to specification
Documenting and implementing design changes thus maintaining and controlling build standard. Ensuring that quality standards are meet the liaising with the PA manager
Conducting tolerancing, optimization and stray light analysis on optical system designs
